I entered my image of Robert Stevenson from “A Silent Film” into The Pop Cop’s annual Scottish Music Photograph of the year competition, which was this year judged by world famous photographer Harry Benson.

Harry has a back catalogue that would be the envy of any photographer- he has photographed multiple US Presidents, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Churchill, and many other key characters over the decades. Its a great honour to have Harry look at my work.

I was awarded third place in the competition, with the critique “Very moody, a bit of a film noir approach, done very well”. I don’t think I could be happier with that!

DTours [paper] is a Russian fashion, art and music publication. They emailed me asking about the possibility of using my Cassette Tape Anatomy series as part of a spread in their magazine, which I was more than happy to do. I think the result is excellent- I didn’t expect these images to work as part of a magazine feature- though it is very strange seeing my photographs next to text in a language I can’t read! The yearly onedotzero_adventures in motion festival just finished at the BFI Southbank, and I have been there over the course of the five days helping with the documentation of the event- photographing and filming the various interactive installations, workshops, and night time bar events.

There was much stunning work on display- from interactive installations to short films. The H5 retrospective and UK premiere of their new short film “Logorama”, the wavelength screening programme and interactive identity projected in massive scale on the National Theatre were all highlights for me. Every night also had an event at the BFI bar- live AV sets, breakdancers, and DJs all had their night.

I was asked to shoot the Malcolm Middleton show last night in Edinburgh, part of the Edge festival (The new name for T on the Fringe). He played out to a packed Cabaret Voltaire, and the lack of photo pit made things just that bit harder! A great set and enthusuastic crowd made the gig a joy to shoot.

Saturday night was the closing night for the Aberdeen City & Shire film festival- it was also the first night that myself and Fraser Denholm (www.fraserdenholm.com) have worked together under the name ‘Pay No Attention to the Men Behind the Curtain’, creating visuals while Kieran span records. I’m behind the camera as usual, but you can see Kieran and Fraser above.

Its been a great festival- with people coming from all over to see such diverse work by local film makers. Highlights for me were Found re-soundtracking a Norman McLaren animation, and the local films showcase, after which there were short interviews with the film makers. Below are some images of the event I have taken over the last week.

Part of the work shown in my D&AD New Blood show at the start of the month. This was my contribution for my issue of Cake Magazine, with the theme “Lumière”- I wanted to take light to somewhere it wouldn’t be expected. The beach at midnight seemed like a good choice!

I’m currently working as a photographer for the Aberdeen City & Shire Film Festival, which is on from now until the 1st of August in various venues across the city. There is a wide variety of events planned- from artists talks, to workshops and the mysterious “mytube” youtube Djing, pictured above- which lets visitors mix youtube videos together on a projector. Tonight features a local film showcase- with everything from experimental shorts to skate films shown- from 8pm at Bar Five. The selection has been chosen by Jon Reid, himself a local film maker and blogger.

I think wind turbines are pretty amazing- really quite elegant and impressive; so I jumped at the chance to do some work with London studio Uber (www.uber-london.com) for Eastman, a chemical company who have been utilising wind turbines to improve energy efficiency and keep greenhouse gas emissions low.
