I entered my image of Robert Stevenson from “A Silent Film” into The Pop Cop’s annual Scottish Music Photograph of the year competition, which was this year judged by world famous photographer Harry Benson.

Harry has a back catalogue that would be the envy of any photographer- he has photographed multiple US Presidents, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Churchill, and many other key characters over the decades. Its a great honour to have Harry look at my work.

I was awarded third place in the competition, with the critique “Very moody, a bit of a film noir approach, done very well”. I don’t think I could be happier with that!

The Pop Cop- excellent Scottish music blog: thepopcop.blogspot.com

I made the journey with my course mates to London last week, for the D&AD New Blood exhibition, a yearly event in which graduating visual communication, advertising, graphic design and digital media courses from across the UK exhibit together.

For me, it was an opportunity to see the output of other students, and gain help and criticism from the many tutors, working creatives and employers visiting to see the work on the walls. Most useful of all for me was the portfolio surgery- I got to see what an industry professional looking at my work with fresh eyes thought, and the advice I received is something I can see myself applying to every project I tackle from now on!

I was lucky enough to be selected for the Best New Blood award- which only a handful of graduates receive each year.

Love the yellow carpet.
